Understanding the Index
Succession Pressure Index
A 0–100 score based on farmer aging pressure: average producer age and the percentage of operators over 65. Higher scores mean greater succession urgency. Each county detail panel also shows Conversion Score (land-use change) and Combined Risk (succession + conversion).
What It Means
Higher scores flag counties with older farm operators and elevated transition urgency — places where land is most likely to need a new steward soon.
How to Use It
Aspiring farmers can identify high-opportunity regions. Retiring farmers can gauge local interest in farm transitions and partnerships.
