Beyond the Oaks — My Story & The Opportunity I’m Looking For I’m looking to find an experienced farmer who is approaching the next stage of their farming life and might be open to doing things a little differently. I have a genuine passion for agriculture and a strong desire to build a life in farming. I’m not simply looking to buy a property and start from scratch — I want to learn from someone who has spent decades building something of their own. I’m establishing Beyond the Oaks, with livestock at its heart, and I have already started building a small herd of stud and performance-registered Herefords. The control of food and fuel is the key to self sufficient living. In an effort to take control of our food supply, we raise meat rabbits, quail, chickens and are looking at goats and cattle next. Alternative fuel/energy has also been a high priority; gasification systems, anaerobic digestors, and various other electricity generators. These systems that I build use animal waste, wind and sunshine to help provide electricity to the farm. We are currently doing all of this out in the desert of Arizona, my goal is to take my family somewhere where water and green grass is plentiful! Born and raised in a small town, I got my first farm job the old-fashioned way driving gravel roads and stopping to ask farmer if they needed help. One of them told me to come back the next day, and I never really left agriculture after that. I spent three years working on a crop farm while still in high school, graduated early so I could spend more time in the fields, and eventually worked about eight years full-time in production agriculture. Final position managing 4500 acres and all of the people that came with it. Over the years I’ve done a little bit of everything and ended up as management:  irrigation, spraying, planting, harvest, equipment maintenance, shop work, and working alongside agronomists to keep crops moving in the right direction. Farming taught me work ethic, problem solving, and how to keep going when things don’t go according to plan. Eventually I decided I wanted to build toward owning a farm of my own someday, so I started my own business wrenching on farm equipment to increase my income and expand my connections in the industry. Right now I’m looking for the next door into the ownership and management side of agriculture ideally an opportunity to help grow an operation long-term while continuing to learn from people who’ve built something successful. I grew up in Harper, Texas, where small-town values taught me the discipline to solve complex problems with limited resources. As valedictorian of my high school class, I pursued mechanical engineering at Duke University, conducting research on 3D printing and biomimetic structures, then advanced to a PhD in bioengineering at the University of Oregon. My academic work has centered on understanding how living systems organize, adapt, and heal, principles I seek to apply directly to the land. Now, I want to translate that systems-thinking to regenerative agriculture, learning how soil health, biodiversity, and ecological relationships create farms that don’t just produce, but restore. My name is Christopher Eichenauer, and I co-founded Harmonia Farms with my brother Anu in Denver, Colorado. We run a distributed urban CSA across 14 residential garden sites in Denver, Lakewood, and Wheat Ridge, where neighbors share their yards and we grow the food. We're launching our first CSA season now, producing over 130 varieties of vegetables, herbs, and flowers using organic, no-till, regenerative methods informed by Korean Natural Farming and JADAM principles, all adapted for Colorado's high-altitude, alkaline clay conditions. I handle operations, marketing, and technology. Anu is the head farmer with a deep instinct for soil and plants. Together we've built companion planting systems, integrated pest management around native beneficial insects, and a succession framework designed to keep CSA boxes full from spring greens through fall storage crops. We also donate all produce from our Denver Urban Gardens plot to local food shelters. We've proven we can grow food and build community on borrowed land. Now we're looking for a place to put down roots of our own, somewhere we can expand into perennials, small livestock, and season extension, and build something that lasts. Colorado is home, and we'd love to stay. But we're open to the right opportunity elsewhere. I'm the daughter to an immigrant and working as a civil engineer, but my heart keeps leading me back to the land. I studied chemistry, philosophy, and environmental engineering, but I'm mostly interested in working within ecological systems, and I've always been around and involved in farms. I grew up riding horses, sorting cattle for fun, and currently help out a small chemical-free farm in Columbia County, Oregon. My goal is to keep my day job and transition to farming as it makes sense for me so I can raise a family and have enough money to get the farm going. I've spoken with FSA folks and it seems like the current model is all based on statistics or numbers coming from universities, which has me a bit dumbfounded because each parcel of land is unique with its own ability to produce food at different rates. The only numbers that should be considered are the market values for the goods you're selling, at least I think so! I want to farm regeneratively and primarily work with animals. I'm mostly interested in sheep, creating sheep milk products, and processing fleece, but I'm also really interested in doing some land restoration and working with the native land to create foraging spaces for animals and people alike. There are some local crops that are incredibly difficult to cultivate and need a more native habitat, things like red huckleberries, that I want to be able to supply to the local market. I know a few folks who would love to have a regular supplier for their bakery. I could also be easily persuaded into working with a small cow dairy farm as well, I enjoy working with my friend's jersey cows and they've always been lovely to milk. Having a solid supply of healthy food, especially local food, is very important to me.

I have 20 years experience in botany and several formal trainings, certifications and internships completed in farming, always with more education on the horizon.
